Our Professional Gardening Services
We pride ourselves with being meticulous, experienced gardeners that take on each new garden project with enthusiasm and pride. We offer gardening services to those that may need us for a spring garden cleanup, fall cleanup, or just your annual garden cleanup.
From early spring until late fall, we are busy doing lots of gardening. Spring yard cleaning as well as lawn overseeding, sodding, lawn repairs, then shrub and hedge trimming through to the beginning of September. 3 times a year we do lawn fertilizing and advise everyone to do an annual overseeding, we end the season with a busy fall cleanup which includes cutting down perennials and leaf removal. Offering a yard cleanup service has become a very popular job request. After a few trips to the dump the results are assume and customers are very happy.

Our Customer Reviews
Many of our customers have been with us for 8 or 10 years and many of those customers would vouch for us if you wish references. Please see our reviews on Google+, Yellow Pages, and on our Review Page as well as many of the local business Directories.
Spring cleaning starts as soon as I can safely remove the plow from my truck. Manny customers want their lawns raked (we have a great power raker) to be ready for lawn fertilizer as well as cleaning up their flower beds from the last of their neighbour’s leaves that blew over. When we get to your home we will discuss what additional work you would like done. Many customers want a new crisp edging of their flower beds and we will start at one end of your garden and work right around. We can possibly turn over the soil if you wish (not the easiest of tasks). We can remove or thin out any overgrown perennials or dig out a dead shrub with the roots. We clean up the mess with care taken to not step over all your flowers in the process. We have a special power-raker machine that is great for raking the lawn in the spring. I will usually go to your home with one or two respectable looking helpers depending on the gardening job or the time of the year.
We are confident you will be happy as we have been completing successful gardening projects for many years! We care, we work hard and we want your garden and yard to look great when we leave. We get great satisfaction leaving a customer’s home after completing a successful gardening project. You pay us by cheque when the Garden services job is fully complete to your satisfaction.
Fall is a great time to cut down all your dead Hostas and perennials. We can usually get this done in early November.
We are very knowledgeable from many years of experience about which plants need to be cut and which do not.
I feel very strongly about getting these plants cut down in the fall because if you do not cut them down the sprouting buds in the spring may get trampled on if you do not happen to get your spring cleanup done early enough. Hostas can grow from nothing to two inches out of the ground in days. So get them cut down in the fall and you will avoid stepping on them in the spring.
The labour money you think you are saving in the fall is not worth the trouble. We may well be the ones apologizing in the spring for stepping all over the new early buds.
Timing for Leaf Cleanup
Everyone’s leaves seem to fall at all different times, from mid October to 1st week December. Most falling prior to November can be mulched up with the lawn cutting, however the problems lie in dealing with the late trees like Beech, Oak and certain Maples trees that can be hard to manage. Rest assured and we give you our word that your leaves will get taken care of even if the last leaf is the 2nd week of December (like one customer last year). In many niegbourhoods the trucks are done before the last leaves fall, but I bag them up and take them to the city dump. There may be a small premium cost to cover the bags and extra time but nothing much. The photo below shows us dropping off a trailer full after the City leaf removal trucks had completed their final pickup. We have all the necessary equipment to do a great job.
There are many years we are driving up to the dump with 6 or 7 full loads. So relax and let us handle it for you. We charge one amount for the entire fall season and come around as many times (usually weekly) as we need to in November and December to collect all your leaves.
If your garden is very large and has not been weeded for some time it can be a real challenge. If you have been keeping up with the garden weeding you will have it under control. If not, then even a small area will be time consuming, and as you may well know, most all the weeds will be back, it takes repetitive hard work to get your garden under control.
It may not always be a job or challenge that we wish to take on, it is a tiresome job, difficult to motivate even the best workers and quite frankly I feel terribly guilty assigning someone this job. A good worker will be bored, angry and want to quit, a poor worker will be no good, too slow, on his phone all day, and we will both want to fire him. Remember no one likes picking weeds any more than you do. We do not have many illegal migrant workers here in Canada or any Dalits that will do a good job for minimum wage and still show up for work the next day. Many people assume that since we are gardeners we should be more than anxious to take on their 12 hour weeding job. I’m Sorry.
Our Garden Weeding Stipulations
If your garden weeding involves incorporating it with many of our other gardening services and if it is only a small percentage of the work required than we would be happy to help you get it cleaned up. We will not take on any job that requires mostly weeding! Most gardens will need to be maintained 2-4 times a year to be manageable if there are lots of bare dirt spaces. My suggestion is to get rid of as many bare areas as possible. Mulch works great if applied heavily and maintained yearly. People that say that mulch does not work have not applied it heavily enough to their garden. You may also may want to try applying a ground cover, or Hostas and rocks will help take up some space between your perennials and shrubs. Changing things is what I would advise if your weeds are plentiful and your spare time is not. If it does not look good then the status quo is not working!
But any solution will cost money and take up someones time. There are no quick or magical remedies and we do not offer any.
Edging, either cleaning one up or creating a new one it is sure to give your garden a fresh look. There are two ways of making the edge, one is to cut down straight the other is on an angle. When making a Garden Edging I prefer the angle as it is easier to cut the lawn and not fall into the trench. We can do what ever you wish, everyone has a preference. We try not to take any more lawn away as we cut into the ground, just keep the exiting line and remove any new growth to keep it strait. This can help the whole area look nice. To maintain a nicely manicured edge it will need to be attended to a few times a year.
Applying Mulch to Garden
Applying mulch, we will order the mulch ourselves from the better gardening centers depending on what type you want: Black cedar, natural cedar, or try Hemlock for a unique look. We can also apply 4 or 5 yards of small pinewood chips that is perfect for a children’s play area, or cleaning up under a wooded area. Some of the lesser expensive bright red and black ‘mulch’ is make from old skids and other garbage wood, and I find it looks cheap as well. We purchase our mulch from Islington Nurseries and Van Beeks Garden Supplies. Both have quality natural looking products at reasonable costs. They do however each have different products which is why I use both. Delivery is usually approx $70. We will arrange to have it dropped on your driveway onto a tarp and then have it distributed to your garden that day. If you only need a few bags Canadian tire have a great natural cedar mulch. You should be applying it at least 3 inches thick, any less and you will have more weeds coming thru. It will usually compress with rain and time to an inch or so. You will still have some weeds after awhile but for the most part they are manageable, and you will have to reapply the mulch every year. My wife wonders where it all goes. Decomposes and gets cut up with the lawn mower I suppose. You will not have to reapply 3 inches worth but it does need to be topped up annually.
Perennial Planting and Maintenance
If you are having trouble keeping all your lawn looking good replace it with perennials, ground cover and walking stones. They may take a little time to establish but for the most part they are maintenance free after they have matured. Most simply need to be cut down in the fall.
Except for my favorite Periwinkle which needs no attention and can be stomped on all over in the fall when you are getting rid of your leaves. Hostas have to be my favorite. They grow easily and there are so many different colors and sizes. (I have over 15 different kinds at my house) In the fall you cut them out. They also need little water and they grow well in the shade and can be transplanted at any time. Actually it takes a very special type to grow well in the sunlight, that is possibly their negative trait that they do not grow well in sunlight.
Stone Flower Box
We can help plan, create and purchase all that is needed for a stone planter to go around your tree that never seemed to be able to grow grass around. We will fill it with soil and either periwinkle or hostas as they will all grow well under a tree with little water. This may cost a little up front but it then become a focal point and no longer require the work you had trying to grow lawn. Looks great and no work.
Small stone flower box
We can recommend certain shrubs, perennials and annuals that might be suitable, we have some dependable easy maintenance favorites. Annuals can be used to fill in the areas while the perennials and shrubs grow into their new areas.
Removing Dead Shrubs & Small Trees
Removing shrubs or a small tree under 15 ft including the root ball, we will pull it all out instead of grinding it down.
We offer early spring transplanting but no guarantees, sometimes it is better to just buy a new shrub, but done early enough should be fine, we may recommend not doing any past beginning May. Hostas can be moved anytime.
Old Wood to The Dump
If you have a yard that requires lots of work to cleanup and may require a few loads being taken to the dump we can help with that as well. If you are thinking of selling (or not) the less junk you have lying around the better. You will be amazed at your yard when we are done!
Yard Cleanup to Help Sell Your House
Just moved into a new house with a yard that has not been tended to, we can help clean things up. Let our gardening service get that over grown back yard in shape for you. Selling? Cleaning up the yard and fixing up a few things around the outside of the house is just as important as staging the house. So consider all that we can do to help get more money for your house. I was in real estate for 9 years so you can use that experience to your benefit as well.
Gardening Service Rates
Our gardening rates are very competitive, but we also do a great job and charge accordingly. Many of our customers have told us that good gardeners are not easy to find. We have all the proper equipment and tools and have learned how to plan a job so that we can complete it in better time. The construction crews that are working outside moving stones around very seldom take any time to consider what the plants, trees and shrubs are going to look like in 5/10 years time within the environment that have been planted. They are after all construction workers, not gardeners. Everything looked great and manageable on an initial plan, but did they give you a 5 year overview as well.
Gardening requires knowledge, experience, a vision and courage to have experimented with ideas and witnessed the results. We have witnessed!
Flat Hourly Rates
Unless a flat rate for your gardening project has been agreed to, we also offer an hourly rate. We can discuss both rates with you. If we are charging you by the hour within 5 – 10 minutes after arriving at your house the hourly charge clock starts, I am sure you understand that I cannot afford to have my workers standing around while we chat and design yard garden projects for 45 minutes. However, I am only too happy to discuss all the gardening plans and projects you would like us to complete, but hourly charges will apply. We will have most likely discussed on the phone or by email most of the gardening jobs you would like us to do when we get to your home, so we will be working on your garden shortly after arriving. Either way our customers are always happy with the results. I have stayed in the landscaping business not for the money (God Forbid) but for the satisfaction I get with what we can achieve and create with our work.
There is a minimum one hour charge (2/3 workers X one hour) for any work requested. So find all your gardening work to keep us busy.
Our Commitment to Detail
What we can get done in a few hours might take some homeowners a whole weekend, and we will actually clean up the mess and clippings. We have a track record of completing good gardening work.
We invoice after we have completed your gardening and only when you are satisfied and we take cheques of course.
We will not show up and waste time at your home, we are always busy with customers waiting on us and have no time to waste!
